Newborn Photography Brighton | When does my newborn photo shoot need to take place?

Even though 2023 has only just begun, I’ve already received quite a few enquiries about newborn photography sessions - what a lovely way to start the year! People often ask me when they should schedule their baby’s photo session, to get those very first newborn family photos, so I thought it would be a good idea to get this question answered on the blog today.

The most important thing to remember is that you need to be ready for your newborn photo shoot. A newborn photo session can be booked in for any time from just a few weeks after you have given birth to a few months after your baby is born. Babies younger than one month old are still quite sleepy, so this age is great for those curled-up sleepy shots. They change a lot in those first weeks, so if you'd like to document the very first weeks then I would suggest booking your shoot for 2 to 3 weeks from the due date.

Babies older than a month tend to be more alert and they can already show so much personality by then! They won't be asleep all the time so there will be more "eyes open" shots and maybe even some first smiles in a shoot from 4 weeks onwards.

All of my shoots are really informal, are led by your little one's needs and have a documentary approach. We can book in a provisional date, but if closer to the time you don't quite feel ready yet, we can easily reschedule.

I absolutely love photographing new families and I can’t wait to meet all the brand new 2023 babies. Hope you all have a great start to the New Year!

X Irma
