While I often photograph Christenings and Baptisms, I also love capturing naming ceremonies - intimate, heartfelt celebrations where families welcome their little ones in a way that feels personal to them.

Freddie’s naming ceremony took place at the stunning Ockenden Manor in Cuckfield, an Elizabethan manor house surrounded by gorgeous gardens and views over Cuckfield Park.

Unlike a Christening, a naming ceremony is entirely non-religious, giving families the freedom to create a celebration that reflects their values and hopes for their child. Some choose to include readings, music, or symbolic gestures like lighting candles or planting a tree. It’s a chance for parents, siblings, and chosen “guideparents” to share their love and promises of support in a way that feels right for them.

Freddie’s ceremony was simple but beautiful - warm words and heartfelt poems from family and friends, followed by a relaxed afternoon tea. The love and joy in the room were undeniable, and it was such a privilege to document those moments.

If you’re planning a naming ceremony for your little one and would love a collection of natural, storytelling-style photos to remember the day, I’d love to hear from you!
